What to expect in your 1st session

Your first session will be up to an hour in length as this allows for a full history to be taken and an initial treatment to be given.  There will be some paperwork to fill in too.

*Please bring a list of your current medication if applicable.

Once we have discussed your current and past health you will be invited to settle on the couch.  Fine, sterile single-use needles are placed in specific points on your body, often the arms and legs but can also be in other places too.  Patients rarely find needles painful and often don't feel the needles are in.  Needles are usually left in for about 20 minutes whilst you rest.

Your pulse will be taken on both wrists and your tongue observed as this forms part of the picture of your current health.

The needles will be removed you will pay for your treatment.  We will discuss your treatment plan and book in any follow-up appointments needed.  You may feel more tired for the rest of the day and should rest if you can.  Many patients find treatment deeply relaxing and can feel calmer and more balanced afterwards.  When performed by a qualified practitioner Acupuncture is safe and has virtually no side effects.

.How to prepare before treatment

*Ideally do not come with an empty or very full stomach.

*Bring a blanket if you would like one to use whilst the needles are in place and you are resting.

*Wearing loose fitting clothing is very useful as a lot of commonly used points are on the bottom half of the arms and legs.

*Please bring a water bottle if you will want a drink whilst you are here.

What to expect after treatment

*You may feel quite tired so rest afterwards if possible.

*Try to refrain from drinking alcohol after your appointment for the rest of the day.

*Everyone reacts differently, occasionally a problem can worsen for a short time after treatment but usually this gives way to improvement.

*You can message if you are concerned about anything after your treatment.

What to expect in a follow up treatment

During a follow-up appointment we will discuss how you got on since your last treatment and continue to treat your issues.  Acupuncture can offer immediate relief, it is usual to need a course of four to six treatments (or sometimes more) to get the full effects.

Follow-up appointments are up to 45 minutes long.

What if you don’t like needles

Acupuncture needles are very different from other needles you may have experienced before.   They are very fine and so not felt in the same way as when you have an injection.   Most people don't find it uncomfortable to receive Acupuncture needles during treatment.
